Our Mission Statement

Information technology (IT) is a cornerstone for the success of contemporary universities. At Eastern Michigan University, the mission of the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) is to provide and support IT resources that advance teaching, learning, scholarly activities and University services. The Division of Information Technology is committed to helping EMU achieve its strategic vision for excellence in education to attract and retain students, faculty, staff and external support.

DoIT will achieve its mission by:

• Implementing an IT governance structure involving key individuals—students, faculty, staff, executives and IT professionals—in deciding how to use IT effectively

• Contributing to tactical and strategic planning committees that identify and prioritize IT initiatives for advancing EMU’s educational programs

• Creating a motivated, high-performing IT organization that focuses on and executes tactical and strategic initiatives

• Creating an IT organization that is efficient and implements cost-effective IT resources and support services

• Using best practices in project and portfolio management so that IT initiatives are completed successfully

• Providing students, faculty and staff with convenient access to the IT systems, data and services they need

• Protecting EMU’s IT systems from malicious disruptions and unauthorized access

• Creating constructive, collaborative relationships with areas of the University to identify, acquire, implement and support IT resources and services

• Creating partnerships with IT companies that provide EMU with a competitive advantage in attracting students, faculty, staff and external support

• Determining how well its IT resources and services are satisfying the needs and expectations of the University community
